NTPC net up 26 per cent

NTPC, India’s largest power generator, has recorded a 26.4 per cent rise in net profit for the quarter ended December 2008 on the back of increased power generation.

“The increase in net profit is mainly attributed to better generation which has increased by 15 per cent as compared to same quarter last year,” said R S Sharma, chairman and managing director of the company.

The state-owned power utility reported a net profit of Rs 2,250.9 crore in the quarter as compared to Rs 1,779.9 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, which was a 15 per cent decline in net profit, compared to the same quarter in the year previous to that (2006-2007).

 

Total income of the company has also increased 20 per cent at Rs 12,128.3 crore in the three months ended December 2008, compared to Rs 10,093.2 crore in the year ago quarter.
