New directors are Ruchi Sanghvi, Facebook's first woman engineer; Neeraj Arora, former WhatsApp global business head; and Naveen Tewari, founder of InMobi

BS Reporter New Delhi
Alibaba-backed Paytm has strengthened its board with three high-profile appointments. The new directors are Ruchi Sanghvi, Facebook’s first woman engineer; Neeraj Arora, former WhatsApp global business head; and Naveen Tewari, founder of InMobi.

Sanghvi comes with a tech background, as she co-created and managed the newsfeed feature on Facebook, Facebook Connect, and Facebook’s Developer Conference F8. She had also led core areas such  as Facebook Privacy, Notes, Homepage, Profiles, and User Engagement.

Arora has been a mergers-and-acquisitions veteran who joined WhatsApp from Google in 2011. He has largely managed the business side as the mobile-messaging start-up grew into a global phenomenon.

Tewari has built mobile ad tech platform InMobi, with a focus on making advertising compelling and with the goal of helping users and marketers in making smarter decisions.

Vijay Shekhar Sharma, founder and chief executive officer of Paytm, said: “As a young company, we are pleased to have such stalwarts in our team to help us scale the brand. Ruchi, Neeraj and Naveen all come with tremendous internet commerce experience with highly renowned brands.”

The company looks forward to the strategic contribution that the new team will make towards Paytm’s journey ahead, Sharma said. “'Their contribution will help scale Paytm to become India's most dominant mobile internet company.”
