Rajeev Dubey Redesignated Rallis Md

BUSINESS STANDARD

The board of Rallis India, the Tata group's agrochemical arm, has redesignated Rajeev Dubey, the present chief executive officer and executive director, as its managing director with effect from July 29.

Dubey had joined Rallis as one of the board members in June 2000 from Tata Metaliks after his predecessor Vijay Rai resigned, a protege of the late Tata group satrap Darbari Seth.

Speaking to Business Standard, Dubey said: "The immediate challenge for Rallis would be due to the erratic monsoon which has created its own problems. However, over the longer term, we would be looking at consolidating to reap the efforts of the ongoing restructuring."

"These would be in terms of cutting costs, reducing wastage, improving quality of our products, and introducing newer products. I see this year as a year of consolidation," Dubey added.

Soon after joining the company, Dubey has been working on a major restructuring at Rallis. This included selling the non-core pharmaceutical business, merging and closing down subsidiaries, and selling other unutilised assets. The company garnered over Rs 130 crore in selling a huge property in Mumbai, and others in Chennai.

Dubey, a Tata Administrative Service cadre of 1975, served for 21 years in Tata Steel in various key positions in Jamshedpur, Delhi and Kolkata prior to his appointment as managing directors of Tata Metaliks in December 1996. He was then one of the youngest managing directors within the Tata group.

Dubey is also on the board of Ralchem (as its chairman), Rallis Finance and Investments Company, Rallis Farm Management Services, Rallis Hybrid Seeds, Sankhya Garments, Siris India, Akola Chemicals, Watsol Organics, Aich Aar Chemicals, Amba Trading, Oriental Seritech. He is also on the board of foreign firms like Pazchem and Caps Rallis.
