Reliance proposes piped gas project in TN

BS Reporter Chennai
Reliances Industries has proposed two projects in Tamil Nadu, one to distribute natural gas through pipeline to the people in the state and another to source agricultural products directly from the farmers in the state for marketing them through its retail network.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, met the state chief minister M Karunanidhi at his residence on Sunday, in the presence of Dayanidhi Maran, union minister of communications and information technology.

Ambani discussed the company's plans to bring natural gas through pipeline from Krishna-Godavari basin in Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu and to source agricultural products directly from the farmers in the state as the company would be setting up its retail outlets in the state.

According to govermment sources, Reliances had been in discussion with the state government regarding these projects over the last one month and had sought clearances. The state government is currently studying the details of the projects.

Reliance is planning to supply piped gas to individual households in the next two years. The piped gas is expected to be 25-30 per cent cheaper than LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).
