In order to ensure balanced and sustainable development of people living in the peripheral villages of mining areas in Orissa, the state government has decided to create a fund of Rs 200 crore under the state owned Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC).
The fund will be utilized for providing basic amenities for the people like drinking roads, roads and education. The decision was taken at a high level meeting on Peripheral Development held today at the state secretariat.
The meeting was chaired by the state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The state Chief Secretary B K Pattnaik, revenue secretary R K Sharma, industries secretary Saurabh Garg and steel & mines secretary Manoj Ahuja were present at the meeting. Sources said that the state government will soon come out with a policy on peripheral development.
