Shopper's Stop, UCO Bank & Upper Ganges Q4 results

Shopper's Stop net up 76%
 
Shopper's Stop has reported 76 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 7.4 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2006 as compared with Rs 4.2 crore in the corresponding quarter in 2005.
 
Retail turnover increased by 36 per cent at Rs 176.1 crore for the March 2006 quarter as compared with Rs 129.7 crore in March 2005. The board recommended a dividend of 15 per cent (Rs 1.50 per share).
 
For the financial year ended March 2006, net profit was Rs 27.1 crore, 42 per cent higher as compared with Rs 19 crore for the financial year ended March 2005.
 
UCO Bank net dips 43%
 
UCO Bank reported rise in total business by 18.86 per cent to Rs 92,361, but net profit declined by 43 per cent to Rs 197 crore for the year 2005-06.
 
The bank attributed the decline in profits owing to increase in depreciation and amortisation expenses of Rs 115 crore and Rs 53 crore toward hike in provisions for standard assets.
 
The bank posted net profit of Rs 346 crore during 2004-05. Net interest income for the year was Rs 1566 crore, representing 11.22 per cent.
 
Upper Ganges net dips 5.42%
 
K K Birla group company Upper Ganges Sugar and Industries reported decline of 5.42 per cent in net profits to Rs 10 crore for the third quarter ended March 2006 as against the corresponding period last year. Gross sales was also lower by 5.84 per cent to Rs 118.26 crore during the quarter.
 
For the nine month period net profit stood at Rs 27.02 crore, up by 91.67 per cent over the corresponding period last year. Meanwhile, the company has earmarked an outlay of Rs 225 crore for expansion in two sugar mills.
