With the demand growing in the country for 'green' data centres, Ahmedabad-based Sai Info Systems (SIS) is foraying into the same as part of its expansion plans. The company is investing around Rs 200 crore for developing the energy efficient data centres for its potential clients.

"When evaluated under power utilisation index (PUI), while a conventional data centre consumes 1.8-2 Mw of power for every 1 Mw of IT infrastructure, a green data centre consumes about 1.4. In India, and especially in Gujarat, demand for green data centres is growing gradually which is why we are foraying into the same," said Sunil Kakkad, CMD, SIS.

At an investment of Rs 200 crore, the company has so far developed 1,500 racks of green data centre, of which 300 racks is for SIS's captive consumption.

On the conventional basis, while the company is currently working on setting up data centres through PPP mode with BSNL with a total capacity of 50,000 sq ft, SIS plans to grow this business. "In next 10 years, data centres has a revenue potential of Rs 2,000 crore for us," Kakkad told Business Standard earlier.

However, data centres as a business generates a revenue of Rs 75 crore of the total Rs 1,560 crore turnover of SIS.

Further, having grown by about 550 times in the last decade to be an over Rs 1,000 crore company, Ahmedabad-based Sai InfoSystem Ltd. (SIS) is now eyeing a Rs 5,000 crore turnover mark by 2015.

Talking about the company's plans, Kakkad said, "We have grown by 550 times in the last decade. Taking the growth further, we are looking at a turnover target of Rs 5,000 crore by 2015. Most of the growth will be in the IT products, IT retail, IT-based telecom verticals as well as data centres."

The company intends to achieve the target through expansion in all the verticals.

SIS, which has branched out in segments like system integration, software solutions, facility management and maintenance services and manufacturing of various hardware products like servers, desktops, laptops and networking products, will be expanding its manufacturing facilities in Himachal Pradesh.

Headquartered in Ahmedabad, SIS has operations in 17 states and five countries. By 2015, SIS expects its presence to be in at least 15 countries and 200 cities within the country.
