Vizag Port chairman takes over additional charge of Kolkata Port

The move comes after R P S Kahloon, the chairman of Kolkata Port Trust, was taken into judicial custody last week following charges of bribery

After R P S Kahloon, the chairman of Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT), was taken into judicial custody last week following charges of bribery, the chairman of Vizag Port Trust Movva Tirumala Krishna Babu has been given the additional charge as the chairman of KoPT by the union shipping ministry.

Rules state that in case an official is faced with such charges, he is suspended from the portfolio in two days time and another official is given the charge. The decision comes in late as Kahloon was remanded into police custody on March 10, which got extended into judicial custody on March 17.

 

Babu is an IAS officer of 1993 batch of Andhra Pradesh Cadre who has worked as the chairman-in-charge of Paradip Port Trust from January-December 2015.
