Vodafone India today launched fourth generation (4G) service today in Mysore in Karnataka, after launching in 10 towns of Kerala last month. This is the second state where Vodafone is offering 4G services.
"Karnataka is a significant growth market for Vodafone India with data contributing to 20 per cent of total revenues and growing at a rate of over 50 per cent annually. Beginning with Mysore, we will soon expand our 4G coverage across the state in a phased manner to cover important business and tourism centres including Bangalore, Mangalore and Hubli," said Suresh Kumar, operations director (South) for Vodafone India.
The second largest telecom provider has plans to roll out 4G services in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru by March this year.
Vodafone's 4G service in Karntaka is built on a strong fibre backhaul and is supported by its own 3G services on a network of 2100 MHz. With the launch today, Vodafone has also become one of the leading telecom operators in Karnataka to offer 2G, 3G and 4G services on its own radio technology, the firm said in a statement.
