The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has provided funds to the National Institute of Engineering (NIE) to carry out a research project on the impact of land use changes on streamflow in the Western Ghats regions of Karnataka.
The project, being implamented by the Department of Civil Engineering of the NIE, involves extensive field studies in the Malnad areas, for collecting data on rainfall and streamflow and analysis of remotely sensed data.
The project provides scope for civil engineering graduates to take up research leading to MSc (Engg) and PhD. Further, the project provides funds to pay a Junior Research Fellow, who is to work full time on the project, says Civil Engineering Department Professor R Yadupathiputty.
