At least 30 members are required to back the move to admit the motion by the Speaker

Raising the political pitch at the start of the Budget session, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and YSR Congress Party on Thursday filed notices for moving the no-confidence motion against the government in the state legislative Assembly.

While at least 30 members are required to back the move to admit the motion by the Speaker, the strength of both the parties falls short of this number.

However, the TRS with 17 members in the Assembly said it had got enough numbers to push the motion with the backing of other members from the Left, BJP and some independent members. The YSR Congress with a similar tally in the Assembly has given a separate notice to the Speaker though it has the backing of another nine members from the ruling Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

However, the main Opposition party, TDP, has dampened the spirits of these smaller parties by not only deciding against taking part in the no-trust motion but has also issued a whip to its members to stay neutral in the event of a vote on the no-trust move.

The ruling Congress party appears jubilant as the no-trust move by these parties will have little impact without the backing of the main Opposition party in a 294 member Assembly.
