Arun Maira now a Plan panel member

Arun Maira, an independent director on the board of Patni Computer Systems, has resigned to join as member of the Planning Commission in Delhi.
In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the company said the resignation is effective from July 22.
This development comes five years after Maira was named a member of one of many working groups to assist the Planning Commission. That exercise had to be abandoned, because the Left parties opposed the general idea of inducting private sector personnel with any affiliation to the Woprld Bank.
Maira has earlier served on several keys posts in organisations like Boston Consultancy Services and Tata Motors. He was in the Tata Administrative Service for 25 years. He has also authored several books on leadership and organisation.
Maira is the eigth member to join the Commission as a member after Narendra Jadhav, Mihir Shah, B K Chaturvedi, Saumitra Chaudhuri, Abhijit Sen, Syeda Hameed and K Kasturirangan.
