Battle over anti-profiteering authority escalates as tenure set to end

The debate over the National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) has taken an interesting twist. With just over a year left of the authority’s tenure, the Delhi High Court is set to hear a bunch of petitions qu­es­tioning its constitutional validity.

Companies have raised questions over the NAA, especially regarding the lacunae in the methodology of computing profiteering, and appro­ached the Delhi HC. The court clubbed 40 such petitions filed by companies including Hindustan Unilever, Patanjali, Jubilant Foodworks, Reckitt Benckiser, Johnson & Johnson, Phillips. The matter will be heard in November.
