Public sector oil marketing companies (OMC) have sought to dispel fears there was any shortage of domestic Liquidified Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Uttar Pradesh.

The OMCs have further clarified there was no restriction in the issuance of new LPG connections, both domestic and commercial.

In the backdrop of the Centre recently capping subsidy on domestic LPG to 6 cylinders per annum to cut mounting losses, a lot of hearsay had been doing the rounds, especially since the festival season is round the corner.

“There is no shortage of subsidised and non-subsidised LPG refill cylinders in UP,” Indian Oil general manager B S Canth told the media here in the presence of representatives of other OMCs. Canth is also the state level coordinator of OMCs.

“Our software, including at the dealers’ end, is being updated to conform to the new regime of subsidised and non-subsidised refill cylinders and it would be impossible to bypass the new directives,” he added.

On the possible use of domestic LPG for commercial use, he said strict action would be taken against such defaulters.

To a query, he said the OMCs were conducting stringent Know Your Customers (KYC) norms to weed out any duplicate LPG connection in single households, which was an offence.

In UP, a subsidised and non-subsidised domestic LPG refill cylinder (14.2 kg) would be available for Rs 417 and Rs 931.50 respectively. Similarly, a subsidised and non-subsidised commercial LPG refill cylinder would be available for Rs 1,211 (14.2 kg) and Rs 1,727 (19 kg) respectively.

Meanwhile, Piped Natural Gas (PNG) had already made its debut in Lucknow, but has still miniscule network. Currently, PNG per unit is almost 30% cheaper vis-à-vis LPG.
