Electoral rolls to be out today

The final revised version of the state's electoral rolls containing 39.8 million names of voters will be published on Thursday.
The list excludes voters under the purview of the Greater Bangalore City Corporation (GBCC) and 16 Assembly constituencies of Bangalore urban district since the review of the rolls in these areas is still on.
Karnataka's Chief Electoral Officer R Ramseshan said on Wednesday that the electoral rolls will be published at the tahsildars' offices across the state. A copy of the rolls will also be sent to all political parties in the state. The electoral rolls were revised after political parties objected to certain discrepancies in them.
Following the revision of the rolls, 5.1 million ineligible voters were dropped from the list. Another 2 million voters whose names were missing from the list earlier were added to the rolls.
Ramseshan said voters in the GBCC limits and 16 Assembly constituencies of Bangalore urban district had one week to ensure that their names were included in the voters' list. Around 1.7 million voters from these areas are likely to be added to the voters' list post-revision.
"The draft version of the electoral rolls has been published at all offices of the GBCC and the tahsildars' office. Voters have time till February 18 to file objections. The final version of the electoral rolls for these areas will be published on March 10," he added.
However, voters will be provided an opportunity to include their names even after the final version of the electoral rolls are published.
"We have not set a deadline to include the names of the voters. It will be an ongoing process," Ramseshan said.
