Flooded Yamuna plays havoc in Haryana

Yamuna is heavily flooded due to heavy rain in its catchment area and its tributaries this week. All the villages falling along the river Yamuna in Haryana State were warned through district administration and irrigation department.

While stating this, a spokesman of the state revenue department said that discharge in river Yamuna increased abruptly from 30,000 cusecs on Tuesday to 330,000 cusecs on Wednesday morning, which further increased to a peak discharge of 607,000 cusecs at Hathni Kund Barrage in the evening. Due to heavy rains in Bilaspur and Chhachhrauli area of Yamuna Nagar district, an additional 100,000 cusecs of water was received in Somb and Pathrala rivers which further added to the flow in river Yamuna. Due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Somb, Pathrala and Yamuna rivers, flood situation emerged in Sadhaura, Bilaspur, Chachrauli and Radaur blocks of district Yamuna Nagar . As many as 97 villages were affected. Flood water of river Yamuna affected agriculture land in 22 villages. The spokesman said that seven-eight villages in Radour Tehsil were still seiged under the flood water. Road network is damaged in many villages and the cropped area affected is about 28,600 acres.

 

Flood water of river Yamuna has also spilled into 12 villages in Karnal district.
