Former Gujarat CM's wife dies in fire mishap

BS Reporter Mumbai/ Ahmedabad
In a fire mishap, Leela ben Patel, wife of former Gujarat Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel was gutted to death while exercising at her residence early morning on Thursday.

A sudden short circuit has been understood to be the reason behind the fire.

The excercise room was majorly wood-based and was completely burnt in the fire. Keshubhai and his son were in the house when the mishap occurred.

Narendra Modi reached Patel's residence quite early along with their collegues to offer condolences.

Keshubhai's securityman Shantibhai Parmar informed him of some smoke coming from the bungalow around 6.45 am while he was preparing to read morning newspapers in another room.

He immediately called his son Mahesh who was sleeping in the first floor bedroom. But by the time they came to the exercise room, the fire had engulfed the room.

Post mortem of the badly burnt body was conducted at the residence itself and the cremation was to be held that evening itself.
