India to become teleport hub: I&B secy

The government is planning to make India a teleport hub, enabling it to become an up-linking/down-linking centre such as Hong Kong and Singapore. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) would soon hold discussions to explore modalities and challenges and finalise a road map for this, I&B secretary Uday Kumar Verma said on Monday.“The initiative will bring foreign investment, better technology and sustainable employment opportunities,” Verma said. He added an empowered group of ministers was looking into some grey areas in the auction of 839 new FM radio stations across 290 towns and cities in the country.
