Press Trust Of India New Delhi/ Jammu
Jammu and Kashmir government has chalked out a comprehensive programme to give a face lift to the transport infrastructure in the Jammu city, Minister of State for Roads and Bridges Gulchain Singh Charak said today.

Airport, railway station and bus stand in Jammu, which are in bad shape, would soon receive a face lift and authorities have been asked to accomplish the task at the earliest, Charak said addressing a news conference here.

He said the government has approved 65 Nabard-aided projects and Rs 286 crore have been sanctioned for the construction of various roads and bridges in the region this year.

"Nabard Mumbai has approved nearly 120 road projects for the state. Of these, 65 projects are for Jammu region while 55 for Kashmir valley," Charak said.

He said last year Jammu region could not get any projects sanctioned as the process for submitting them was delayed. While projects for Kashmir region, which were submitted in the first lot, were approved by Nabard.

Charak said for beautification of Jammu, Rs 1.28 crore have been sanctioned by the government. These projects included roads, footpaths, drains in the markets, residency road, city chowk, Kanak Mandi, Rajinder Bazar, Hari market and Shalamar road.

Other measures for beautification of the city would be taken soon, the minister said. Charak asked people, especially traders, to cooperate with the agencies during execution of work in the city markets and also keep a vigil on the quality of work in their respective areas.
