Omfed hikes milk price by Rs 2 per litre

BS Reporter Kolkata/ Bhubaneswar

The state owned Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation Limited (Omfed), the largest milk retailer in the state, has decided to increase prices of milk by Rs 2 per litre. The enhanced rate will be applicable from February 4.

Following this, the consumers will be charged Rs 26 instead of Rs 24 for a litre of double-toned milk while toned milk will cost Rs 28 against the existing price of Rs 26 per litre. Omfed had last increased milk prices in September 2012.

While the farmers were getting a minimum of Rs 18.50 per litre of milk, now they will be paid Rs 20.50 per litre.

It may be noted, the farmers had been demanding for increase in the procurement price of milk over a long time. Keeping it in mind, the government has decided to increase the milk price and pass on the extra income to the farmers, said a Omfed release.
