Rupee gains 2 paise vs dollar in early trade

The Indian rupee strengthened by 2 paise to Rs 44.93 per dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, supported by dollar weakness against the euro and other currencies overseas and a higher opening in the stock market.
The rupee had depreciated by 6 paise to close at Rs 44.95/96 against the US currency in yesterday's trade on the back of a firm dollar overseas.
Forex dealers said dollar weakness against the euro and other currencies overseas and a higher start in the stock market mainly supported the rupee's rise against the American dollar, but dollar demand from oil importers capped the gains.
The Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex was up by 184.83 points at 17,912.32 in opening trade today.
