Silver worth Rs 36 lakh seized

Four businessmen of Rajkot were held by Panchmahal police near Orwada village of Godhra taluka on Sunday night and illegal silver worth Rs 36 lakh was seized from them.

The vehicle in which the contraband was being transported from Indore was also seized by the police.

"Based on a tip off, we stopped the four-wheeler at the Nandpur railway crossing. On thorough inspection of the vehicle, we found the silver bricks," said a police official.

The sales tax and income tax departments were also informed of the seizure as the contraband items did not have any proper authorisation, according to the police official.

A team of police officials was sent to Indore for further investigation into the matter, he added.
