Stock foodgrain for PDS: Raman Singh

Chief Minister Raman Singh gave necessary instruction to the officials in this regard at a day-long Collectors' conference today.

He asked the officials of the department concerned to ensure storage of sufficient quantity of food grains and other essential commodities in the 334 villages that remain cut off during monsoon.

Dr Singh instructed the officials to complete the storage work at the earliest and ensure that it meets the demand of villagers for four months.

 

Stressing for a constant vigilance on the PDS, he said the use of Information Technology and participation of village vigilance committees had yielded the desired results in checking the irregularities. "This has to be maintained," he exhorted.

The officials with the department of food and civil supplies informed that the distribution of new ration cards to the people living below poverty line in the urban areas would start later this month.

They said action had been against the owners of 115 PDS outlets and 4470 quintals of food grains were seized during inspection conducted from time to time to check the irregularities.

While reviewing the preparations made for the coming kharif season, the chief minister instructed the officials to ensure storage of fertilisers and seeds in the cooperative societies.

The officials informed that 50,000 quintals of seeds had been stocked in the societies till May 13. In few districts, farmers have already started purchasing seeds.

The progress of different on-going schemes of the state government was also reviewed in the meeting.
