In line with the Centre and other state governments trying to woo global investors, Tamil Nadu will host a ‘Global Investors Meet’ here in October this year.
This was announced by finance minister O Panneerselvam in his Budget speech. He added that an outlay of Rs 100 crore had been provided in the current Budget for the summit.
Panneerselvam noted that from May 2011, Memoranda of Understanding had been signed for a total investment of Rs 26,625 crore, of which Rs 10,660 crore of actual investment had been realised till date. This had created additional employment opportunities for 10,022 people.
He added that 53,000 acres of land would be developed for industrial purposes all over the state, with a special focus on the southern districts namely Madurai, Dindugal, Theni, Sivagangai, Ramana-thapuram, Virudhunagar, Pudukkottai, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. A special package for the industrial development of the southern districts has been put in place.
