TN government medical colleges to be upgraded

The Government Medical College, Salem, will be upgraded as part of the first phase of the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). In the second phase, Madurai medical college will be upgraded. The project cost for upgradation of each medical college is estimated at Rs 150 crore. Of this, the central government will contribute Rs 125 crore and the state government will provide remaining Rs 25 crore. The main objective of the PMSSY is to correct the imbalances in the availability of affordable healthcare and medical education facilities in different parts of the country, according to an official release.
