UP CM Akhilesh promises better policing in state

Says the state govt is not only increasing the strength of policemen, but also modernising and upgrading infrastructure of police dept

After receiving severe battering from all quarters on the law and order front, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday talked about measures underway to bolster policing in the state.

He said the state government was not only increasing the strength of policemen, but also modernising and upgrading the infrastructure of the police department.

Speaking in the state assembly, Yadav reiterated that his government was serious on the law and order issue and had always taken prompt action in incidents of crime.

He informed that the government would install Close Circuit TV paraphernalia at 70 crossings in Lucknow for better monitoring of criminals and crime incidents.

Besides, Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) is being implemented in Lucknow and Ghazipur districts to facilitate online registration of First Information Reports (FIR) and faster processing of character certificate applications.

Initiated by the union home ministry and implemented by the National Crime Records Bureau, CCTNS is aimed at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the effectiveness of policing at the police station level through e-governance.

Meanwhile, the government would also set up Police Control Rooms equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) in Ghazipur, Allahabad, Lucknow and Kanpur to smart monitor the deployment of police force and ensuring prompt reaction to incidents.

Yadav referred to the 'Women Power Line 1090' introduced last year for controlling crime against women, which he claimed had been fetching good results.

The government is considering transforming the archaic appearance of police stations to a pleasant one, so that the general people can approach the police without fear and apprehension.

He rapped the media for allegedly only reporting the incidents of crime, but not following it up when action is taken in such matters.

However, leader of the opposition Swami Prasad Maurya and BJP leader Hukum Singh maintained that the law and order situation had deteriorated.
