Seeking protection of all Indian students in Australia, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has written a letter to Australian High Commissioner in India, John McCarthy, appealing him to take up the issue of attack on Indian students with the government there.

"Australia is a peace-loving country. I am sure, with fervent efforts of the Australian government, these incidents will become a thing of the past," the Chief Minister said.

He said many of the students attacked in Australia, hailed from Andhra Pradesh and he has received several representations for taking up the matter with the Government of India as well as the Australian High Commission.

Reddy asked the Australian government to protect the lives of the all Indian students studying there.

Australia has recently seen a series of attacks on Indian students, the most serious being the assault of Shravan Kumar, a 25-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh whose condition is still critical after being stabbed by a screwdriver by a group of teens in a weekend attack.
