Axis Bank launched its Rural Banking Strategy initiative on Monday in Gujarat. The bank launched the new initiative in Gujarat with the inauguration of its first Rural Banking Strategy branch at Rajula.

Apart from Rajula, Axis Bank will be launching five more branches under Rural banking Strategy in Gujarat in the following seven days. These branches will be at Dhrol, Vasana, Gadadha, Manvdar and Bagasara.

"As a part of our strategy of being a total solutions Bank, we launched our Rural Banking Strategy with branches in Punjab and Tamil Nadu. We will be launching 100 such branches across India under the Rural Banking Strategy in addition to our normal network expansion plans by the end of this financial year," said Shriniwas Dandekar, Senior Vice President, Axis Bank.

The launch is a part of Axis Bank's initiative of extending its foot print in tier III, IV and V centres with a population of around 10,000 up to 50,000. The bank is aiming at achieving the twin objectives of tapping semi urban and rural potential as well as bringing technology driven banking services to the hinterland and especially in under banked districts and states.

One of the top five largest private sector banks in India, Axis Bank offers a vast spectrum of services encompassing Large and Mid-Corporate Banking, SME Banking, Agri-Business Banking, Retail Banking and International Banking. Axis Bank's network of over 1,200 branches and 4,900 ATMs is spread across more than 680 cities and towns across the country. The bank has a customer base of over 15 million.
