Govindarajan Is New State Bank Md

BUSINESS STANDARD

The Centre today appointed S Govindarajan as the managing director (MD) of the State Bank of India (SBI). The tenure of the appointment, which takes effect from the date of his joining, is up to July 31, 2002.

Govindarajan, a former deputy managing director (inspection and audit), has over the last few months been heading the national banking group. Away in Beijing, Govindarajan was not available for comment.

He fills in the void created after Vepa Kamesam who had taken over as a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

SBI today also announced the appointment of nine chief general managers (CGMs). S C Bhave, CGM (human resources development), has been appointed as financial controller of the bank. S A Farooqui, principal, Staff Training College (STC), Hyderabad, will take over Bhave's old portfolio.

 

R K Thapliyal, general manager (Patna) has been appointed as principal, STC, Gurgaon. T S Keshavmurthy, GM (Guwahati) will be made CGM (Calcutta) while C R Radhakrishnan has been appointed as the CGM Guwahati in charge of north-eastern circle).

TMN Singh has been appointed as CGM (non-performing assets management) in place of M M Mehta who has retired. As a CGM, Singh has also been given the additional charge of credit department.

T Vijayanand, executive director, SBI Capital Markets, has been appointed as CGM (corporate accounts group). N Chandrasekharan, GM (international division) has been posted as the president and chief operating officer (COO) of SBI Capital Markets. R J Chand, GM (project finance department) has been appointed as MD of SBI Funds Management in place of Niamatullah, who will retire in December.
