Sbi Promotes 18 Officers

State Bank of India today elevated four of its chief general managers (CGMs) to the rank of deputy managing directors (DMD) and 14 general managers to CGMs.
Four new DMDs -- Chandan Bhattacharya, N K Puri, N Sadasivan and S Santhanakrishnan -- will assume charge as and when the posts fall vacant.
Bhattacharya, at present, handles personal banking, N K Puri international banking group, S Santhanakrishnan corporate accounts group and N Sadasivan heads Mumbai circle. There were 11 aspirants for the four DMD posts.

The list of CGMs includes Mythili Rangarajan, CEO of SBI's Tokyo operations, is the second woman executive to be elevated to this level in the bank. The first woman CGM Shanta Raghavan retired in 1998.
Others are Tara Sankar Bhattacharya (commercial banking, Chandigarh), R J Chand (project finance, Mumbai), Indrajit Gupta (foreign dept, Calcutta), M M Lateef (commercial banking, Hyderabad), P K Sinha (shares & bonds, Mumbai), Ram Kumar Thapliyal (development & personal banking, Patna), N Chandrasekharan (international banking group, Mumbai), P G R Prasad (Indo Nigerian Merchant Banking Ltd, Lagos), T S Vaidyanathan (SBI, New York), T K Keshavamurthy (development & personal banking, north-east), C R Radhakrishnan (north-east), Thakur Mukulesh N Singh (international banking) and Yeluri Vijayanand (SBI Caps).
The three DMDs, who are set to retire are D P Roy (associate banks) in October, P K Sarkar (international banking) in December and Birendra Kumar, managing director, SBI Capital Markets, in April 2002.
Once managing director Vepa Kamesam becomes a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India his post will also become vacant.
The CGMs, who will retire by December this year are B L Patwardhan (CGM, credit), R C Royappa, MD, SBI Gilts, Niamatullah, MD, SBI Mutual Fund, Madhav M Mehta, CGM (NPA management), Sapan K Gupta (CGM, Bengal circle), Harbans Lal (CGM, Delhi Circle) and V Krishnan.
