Two dead as passenger train derails in New York

At least two people were killed when a passenger train derailed in the Bronx area of New York City today.

Five of the Metro-North train's seven carriages came off the tracks near Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx at 7 in the morning.

At least two persons died, a New York City police source familiar with the investigation and rescue was quoted as saying by CNN.

About 100 firefighters are responding to the scene. Multiple injuries are reported, CNN affiliates WABC and WCBS reported.

The train came off the tracks just as it was coming around a sharp curve.
