KIT: Teachers in India
Strategic tools for the practising manager

While there has been a fair amount of action on the education infrastructure front, the software that goes into creating an institution is yet to come into focus.
India is facing a huge shortage of teachers. The current shortfall in schools is 1.5 million. By 2015, this shortage will increase to 5 million. The scenario is similar in higher education where standards are being diluted in order to fill up vacancies.
The situation is equally acute for education administrators. It is increasingly becoming difficult to recruit able principals, vice chancellors, deans and heads of department.
The space is wide open for entrepreneurs with a vision and commitment to make a difference in the critical area of educational improvement in the country.
