Copper, zinc rise on positive global cues

Copper and zinc prices gained up to 5 per kg in the non-ferrous metal market today on increased buying by stockists, influenced by a firming trend in overseas markets.

Sentiment turned better, as copper gained after a slump in overseas markets on purchases by investors expecting demand to improve as the seasonally weak consumption period ends.

Meanwhile, copper for the three-month delivery rose 0.9 per cent to $7,200 and zinc by 1.1 per cent to $2,013.50 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.

In the national capital, copper wire scrap, copper wire bar and copper mixed scrap were strengthened by Rs 5 each to Rs 377, Rs 396 and Rs 357, while zinc ingot up by Rs 2 to 120.50 per kg, respectively.
