Jeera prices fell by Rs 42.50 to Rs 15,365 per quintal in futures market today as speculators booked profits at prevailing higher levels but thin supplies in the market restricted losses.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in October fell by Rs 42.50, or 0.28%, to Rs 15,365 per quintal, with an open interest of 18,510 lots.

September jeera moved down by Rs 32.50, or 0.22%, to Rs 14,957.50 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,041 lots.

Marketmen said besides profit-booking by speculators at prevailing higher levels, fresh rains in key growing state, Gujarat, which would help sowing in the crop season, also put pressure on the jeera futures prices here.
