Markets extend losses

Markets dopped further on pressure in realty stocks. The Sensex touched a low of 17,859. The index is now down 43 points at 17,894.

Nifty is down 16 points at 5,370.

European markets have opened on a weak note. The FTSE is down 0.5% at 5,230. CAC and DAX are down 0.3% each.

HDFC has slipped 1.5% to Rs 3,034. Reliance Communications has dropped 1.3% to Rs 184.

HDFC Bank and Bharti Airtel have slipped over 1% each to Rs 2,062 and Rs 297, respectively.

DLF, Maruti Suzuki, BHEL and Cipla have dipped around 1% in trades.

However, Hindustan Unilever has added 1.6% at Rs 261. Tata Steel and ACC have advanced 1% each to Rs 512 and Rs 814, respectively.

Wipro and Tata Motors have also moved up.

BSE market breadth is negative. Out of 2918 stocks traded, 1524 have declined while 1291 have advanced.
