Markets firm; HDFC soars 8%

The Sensex is now up 487 points at 14,278.

The NSE Nifty is up 122 points at 4,312.

HDFC has zoomed 8% to Rs 2,273. Tata Steel and Reliance Infrastructure have soared 7.7% each to Rs 630 and Rs 977, respectively.

Tata Power has surged 7.3% to Rs 1,120, and Sterlite has gained 6.7% at Rs 632.

HDFC Bank has rallied over 6% to Rs 1,092. ICICI Bank has advanced 5.5% to Rs 641, and Wipro has added 5% to Rs 423.

SBI, DLF and BHEL have moved up over 4.5% each to Rs 1,383, Rs 494 and Rs 1,665, respectively.

 

Bharti Airtel has gained 4% to Rs 810. Tata Motors, TCS and Reliance have advanced over 3.5% each to Rs 411, Rs 837 and Rs 2,159, respectively.

Grasim, Infosys and Jaiprakash Associates are also up around 3.5% each at Rs 1,850, Rs 1,593 and Rs 159, respectively.

NTPC has shed 4% at Rs 171, and ITC is down 1.5% at Rs 187.

Out of 2,658 stocks traded so far, 1,831 have advanced, 736 have declined and 91 are unchanged.
