Import of natural rubber was up by 91% to 18,141 tonnes in February this year on fall in domestic production amid strong demand for the commodity.

Total import of natural rubber during April-February period was also up 44 by% at 2.99 lakh tonnes, against 2.07 lakh tonnes in the same period last year.
Production of natural rubber dropped to 60,000 tonnes during February 2014 against 62,000 tonnes in the same month last year.
Consumption of natural rubber rose to 78,000 tonnes in February, from 74,175 tonnes in same month last year.
