Nickel prices to rise as China shuts furnaces

"Nickel producers will raise the prices significantly if all small furnaces producing nickel pig iron were closed,'' Huang Ruitang, general manager at Shanghai Shouchang Ferrous Nickel Smelting Technology, said.
China last August issued orders restricting investment in nickel pig iron furnaces and demanded closure of furnaces with a capacity of less than 300 cubic metres to curb energy consumption.
