Potato falls 0.6% on higher supply

Press Trust of India New Delhi

Potato prices fell by Rs 6 to Rs 999.50 per quintal in futures trade today on selling by speculators, driven by reports of increased supplies in the physical market, against sluggish demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, the April contract fell by Rs 6, or 0.59%, to Rs 999.50 per quintal, with a business volume of 48 lots.

The May contract declined by Rs 5.30, or 0.47%, to Rs 1,107 per quintal, with a business volume of 98 lots.

Marketmen said increased supplies in the physical market following persistent arrivals from producing regions, against lower demand in the spot market led to the decline in potato futures prices.
