Sensex, Nifty notch up gains in early trade

The Bombay Stock Exchange index, the Sensex, opened 145 points higher at 17,476. The Sensex is now up 55 points at 17,378.

The NSE Nifty touched a high of 5,177, and is now up marginally at 5,151 - up nine points.

Among the Nifty stocks - Sterlite and TCS have gained 2% each at Rs 837 and Rs 610, respectively.

National Aluminium has moved up 1.5% to Rs 358. Cairn India, Bharti Airtel, SBI, DLF and Tata Power have advanced over 1% each.

ICICI Bank however has slipped 1% to Rs 950.
