Sensex up 596pts; HDFC zooms 8%

The Sensex is now up 596 points at 16,265.

HDFC has zoomed over 8% to Rs 2,360, and HDFC Bank has soared 6.3% to Rs 1,307.

Maruti, Bharti Airtel and Mahindra & Mahindra have surged over 5.5% each to Rs 924, Rs 879 and Rs 748, respectively.

ONGC has gained 5% at Rs 893. Reliance has rallied 4.5% to Rs 2,152.

Tata Motors, ICICI Bank and SBI are up over 4% each at Rs 726, Rs 964 and Rs 1,764, respectively.

Out of 2,807 stocks traded so far, 1,667 have advanced, 1,072 have declined and 68 are unchanged.
