Sensex zooms to new high of 6849.48

| The Sensex broke all previous records and zoomed to a new high of 6849.48 points on the BSE during the week under review due to heavy all-round buying. The BSE benchmark 30-share sensitive index opened firm at 6584.34 as against the previous close of 6569.72. Thereafter, it continued to shoot up and after touching an intra-day high of 6864.62, ended at an all-time high of 6849.48, registering a sharp gain of 279.76 points or 4.26% rally over the previous close. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) which bought shares worth Rs 1604 crore in March so far, and a remarkable Rs 10,673 crore during the year, continued to be the major buyers in blue chip counters which lifted the index to record highs, a broker said. The buying spree was so intense that shares from all the segments rallied. All the indices like BSE-100, BSE-200, BSE-500, Bankex and BSE-metal index closed with steep gains. |
