Sugar rises on strong demand, thin supply

Sugar prices rose at the Vashi Wholesale market here today owing to robust demand from stockists and bulk traders coupled with a higher festive offtake.

Medium sugar quality (M-30) hardened by Rs 20/47 per quintal to Rs 3,028/3,091 from last weekend's closing level of Rs 2,981/3,071.

Small sugar quality (S-30) also firmed up by Rs 9/20 per quintal to Rs 2,980/3,021, as compared to Rs 2,971/3,001 last Saturday.

The following are today's closing rates per quintal, with the previous rates in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality Rs 2,980/3,021 (Rs 2,971/ 3,001) and medium sugar (M-30) quality Rs 3,028/3,091 (Rs 2,981/3,071)
