Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of being "the gentle face of Maoism" and said they are trying to hijack democracy through anarchy.

"The way AAP has displayed anarchy and violence on the day election has been declared in the country. They are trying to disturb and vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the country which could affect the free, fair and peaceful conduct of polls," Naqvi said.

They have become a symbol for anarchy. This is a very dangerous mentality. They are trying to hijack democracy through anarchy," he said.

"If they continue to do so, it will be difficult to have a peaceful election," he added.

AAP workers on Wednesday fought pitched battles with BJP activists outside the saffron party headquarters here hours after AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal was detained briefly in Gujarat.

The Gujarat Police stated that Kejriwal had not taken permission from them to hold road show.
