Addressing her first major rally in her 2016 presidential campaign United States Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton on Saturday vowed to help "everyday Americans".

Outlining her key policies in a speech to thousands of supporters on New York City's Roosevelt Island, Clinton pledged to support working families, saying: "America can't succeed unless you succeed."

She promised to make the economy work for everyday Americans, not just those at the top if elected president next year.

She said prosperity can't be just for CEOs and hedge fund managers; democracy can't be just for billionaires and corporations.

Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and daughter Chelsea were also present, reports the BBC

Until now, the former secretary of state has held small events with selected audiences in early voting states such as Iowa, and Saturday's outdoor rally marked a change in gear for her campaign.

Clinton is hoping to create history by becoming the first female US president.

Her rally, however, did not see her detailing any specific policy proposals, but her campaign aides said it could be revealed in the weeks to come.
