Bangladesh Cricket Board chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chowdhury has informed that the Australian cricket team is likely to tour Bangladesh later this year for a two-Test series.

Australia is expected to play two Tests against Bangladesh in August and September in Dhaka.

"We are now working on the schedule and other details with CA (Cricket Australia)," Sport24 quoted Chowdhury as saying.

Australia last played their Test match in Bangladesh in 2006 under Ricky Ponting.

In October 2015, Australia had postponed their Test tour to Bangladesh after receiving advice from the federal government that there were "high risks" if they went ahead with the tour, and Australia also did not send a team to the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in early 2016.

Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia's head of security, had visited Bangladesh in October to monitor security arrangements.
