The father of the teenage boy, who was beaten to death by a group of men in Bangladesh, has claimed that a police official in the north-eastern city of Sylhet took a bribe and helped one of the accused flee the country.

Samiul Alam Rajon's father, Md. Azizur Rahman, said that Aminul Islam, a sub inspector at the Jalalabad Police Station, helped Kamrul Islam escape to Saudi Arabia in exchange for 12 lakh takas, reported The Daily Star.

He alleged that Aminul was paid six lakh takas in cash and the rest was supposed to be given after Kamrul's arrival in Saudi Arabia.

The victim's father claimed that getting Kamrul's brother, Muhit, off the hook was also a part of the deal.

Following the allegations, Aminul was withdrawn from duties yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) commissioner has formed a three-member committee, headed by Additional Police Commissioner SM Rokon Uddin, to probe the allegations against Aminul and submit a report within three days.

Rajon was beaten with a metal rod and the perpetrators filmed the act on camera.
