Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Tuesday that the country would have acquired developed status 30 years ago had Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman not been assassinated.
She was addressing a rally marking Bangabandhu's homecoming day at Suhrawardy Udyan.
The Dhaka Tribune quoted Hasina, as saying that a deep-rooted conspiracy was hatched to kill Sheikh Mujib Rehman.
The Prime Minister said a vested quarter grabbed power in the country and freed all war criminals following the assassination of Bangabandhu.
She added that Bangladesh's overall development was halted post his assassination.
Hasina asserted that her government is continuing with the standards introduced Bangabandhu shortly.
The rally was attended by thousands of supporters, activists and leaders of the ruling Awami League .
