The Congress Party on Saturday criticised the BJP-led NDA government for its silence over the ongoing cross border firing from Pakistan that has resulted in loss of many innocent lives.

"This is very unfortunate. Large numbers of civilians have been killed. Six people were killed earlier in the unprovoked firing by Pakistan and a day before yesterday a Commissioned Officer died. Our Prime Minister is keeping mum, the government is maintaining a silence over it," Congress leader, Shakeel Ahmed told ANI.

Ahmed further questioned the government for the gap between its promises made to the people before the assembly elections and its actions.

"It is for the people of this country to see. Prime Minister Modi should compare what he had said at the time of elections and what he is doing today. The situation is pathetic and very unfortunate, the government must act on it," he added.

Early on Friday morning, Pakistani troops killed three civilians and injured eight others.
