The Congress Party on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send a strong message to China on the People's Liberation Army's repeated intrusions into India during his visit to Beijing next week.

"During his visit, we should not have intrusions into Indian territory which has been happening. Earlier, there was a VIP from China [Xi Jinping] in India, while there was an intrusion from China. So he needs to protect the border and he needs to protect India. That is the important message he must send from Beijing," Congress leader Tom Vadakkan told ANI.

However, Vadakkan further said that Prime Minister Modi's presence on the Chinese social network Weibo was a testament to his effective use of social media.

"It is an interesting development and he is using the social media effectively. We accept that," he said.

Prime Minister Modi will be in China on a three-day official visit starting May 14.
